EVERTON EYES VICTOR MOSES OF CHELSEA

Nigeria’s Victor Moses could be a surprise first target for new Everton boss Roberto Martinez. The Goodison new chief believes his former Wigan striker – sold to Chelsea for £9m – may be up for grabs with the arrival of Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

With Romelu Lukaku heading back to Chelsea after an eye-catching loan year at West Brom, Moses could be squeezed out despite playing a role last season. Moses played under Martinez at Wigan and the new Toffees boss is keen to get reacquainted with the 22 year-old Nigerian who has enjoyed a flying year with Chelsea and Nigeria.

Close watchers of the transfer market and the English Premier League suggest that Moses may find himself slipping further and further down the pecking order behind the likes of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Brazilian Oscar.

With Mourinho back in the Chelsea hot seat, the Nigerian international could find a regular starting place even harder to hold down; and Moses may think his best bet is to seek pastures new and linking back up with his old mentor hard to resist.

It is also believed that a fee of around £10m may be enough to secure a deal for Moses if he is keen to move. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is believed to have told Mourinho that there will be less money on the table this time around and the Portuguese may be forced to offload a number of fringe players to fund his own transfer targets.

Martinez has also hinted he could go back to raid his old club Wigan, with midfielders James McCarthy, former Evertonian Callum McManaman, James McArthur, Spanish defender Ivan Ramis, and striker Aroune Kone all possible targets.

Martinez revealed there is no deal in place with Whelan to prevent him returning to poach Latics players.

Martinez said, “No, the chairman has been very straightforward and clear with that. He understands that there will be players leaving not just to Everton but they will be leaving because the Premier League is where they want to be. But nobody will go on the cheap; nobody will be leaving because they want to leave. Everyone in football has a price.

“He understands that any team can lose players when a club gets relegated, not just Wigan.” LOOD Naija

ZAINA ON DAREY ART ALADE SOUL MUSIK LABEL

Meet the "first lady" of Darey Art Alade record label, Zaina.
Does she looks like someone you know? She has this to say...

Why I moved back to Nigeria from Atlanta, USA

It wasn’t an impromptu decision. I always tell people that I need to come back home because even though I was born and raised there, my parents, family are here. I was here till I was about 11 years old when I went off to boarding school. Coming back home has always been a must. It is not like I woke up one day and said I would come to Nigeria. I always said that that was a foreign land and home is home. It was just a matter of time. I finished school and every other thing I was meant to do was done, I packed my bags and came back.

My early days

Unfortunately, I did not school here. I say unfortunately because I wanted to go to school here but my father changed his mind at the last minute. People would interject and say he just wasn’t satisfied with every other school. He ended up sending me to the UK, which was funny because my brother was in UK and they brought him here. He did not want to come and I did not want to go. People always used to ask me if I was a military brat because I move around a lot while growing up. Boarding school was in UK – Brighton and Hove – it is outside of London. That is where I grew and spent my secondary school years. It was an amazing experience. My best friend is there, I still have connections with most of my friends from secondary school. Unfortunately, due to the financial meltdown that hit the UK, my school which was built in the 18th Century, ended up getting closed down. Till today, it still hurts a lot of us emotionally. It is the kind of place you would expect to send your girl to, it is an all girls school. You send your daughter to a very old school that has a lot of history and I’m a part of that history. It was quite painful.

My first crush

It was definitely in secondary school. It was in my third form and I was about 14. He was a family friend but his elder brother was like a big brother to me. His mum was friends with my mum and that was how we met. I remember him taking the train to come and see me and his girl pals in school. I don’t remember what he did, but I remember that me and my girls said that the guy was being too shy or too slow. That was my first crush. He wasn’t sharp, he didn’t know how to express himself.

How I discovered my talent

It was actually through my Jazz instructor. I used to play the trumpet and the tuba in school. When people see my stature, they are surprised I play the tuba. I tell people that it was partly because of laziness. Of course, everybody was learning the piano. I wasn’t willing to sit and learn it. I believed that I should lay my fingers on the keyboard and everything should just come out beautifully; unfortunately that did not happen. I did not like theory and you have to learn theory if you do not have that talent. That is how I ended up with the trumpet and the tuba. I used to sing but I did not realise the talent. One year, my Jazz instructor said it was time for me to sing. He put me on the stage, I had a solo and it was called ‘Shooby dooby’. That was the first time I sang a solo in front of the whole school, family and friends. After that, there was no turning back.

The experience

It was a nerve racking experience but it was so much fun. My Jazz instructor was so much passionate about me and anything that has to do with music. He really prepped me well. He made me feel like I was the only person that could do what I did. I think that was a great introduction to music. From there, I started auditioning for lead roles in our plays. Before, I would go and audition for anything. Most of our plays were musical. I always had a passion but that was the time when I started to say, ‘wow! I think I can do this’.

When I started

At that time, it was modelling that was running after me. From when I was four years old, I modeled for almost 15 years. I was doing it but I did not see it as my passion. It was just something I was supposed to do because I had the look. What I did was that as I got older, I started looking for ways to use the modelling to connect music so I would do competitions and go for auditions that would call for a singer and a model. It was actually a great experience and it started to open doors for me. I think my parents saw it as a hobby for me. It was not till my late teens they knew I was serious. They were just clear, ‘finish school, if you like go and do bricklayer, as long as you are happy’. My parents had their own perquisites, you do those, and they are fine with you. They supported me.

My first kiss

I remember it vividly. He was a twin, I remember everything surrounding the first kiss but the kiss itself, I don’t remember. Afterwards I remember feeling like, what did you do? It was very awkward, extremely awkward for me. I did not know if he was supposed to say something or if I was to. We just sat there, and I was like; ok, are you hungry? It was weird but I think it was okay. I wish I had known more. I would have known how to read his body language. He was my first official boyfriend because I was already almost 18.

My worst fear

I’m afraid of premature death. I’m afraid of dying before I’m able to accomplish my heart desires. Those are my fears because I feel like you can die at 90 and still wouldn’t have done much in life. Meanwhile, you can die at 35 and would have done great exploits. When people call your name, they would say you impacted their lives. I met Zaina and she encouraged me to be who I want to be. That is my fear. To have not have impacted in the lives of people around me before it is my time.

Working with Darey Art Alade

I think it is such a privilege to be the first of anything. The ‘first lady’ of Soul Musik, that is really nice. It is a blessing. Working with Darey is quite an experience. He is a very smart and intelligent man. He is a workaholic and very disciplined in his craft. He is extremely humble and a lot of people don’t get to know a lot of these things. He has really pushed me to go beyond my limits. When you work with someone like Darey, he is a perfectionist. You can never bring anything half done to him. He always finds a way to push you further. That has been really great. It is nice to be the only female among the guys. It is a family setting, there is the big aspect of it that I feel I have brothers and you know his wife is the co-owner of the label, Mrs. Biola Art-Alade. I think that is one of the biggest privileges that I have – to have a female boss who sees me as a  lady and understands where I am coming from.

Tiwa Savage and I

First of all, for any kind of comparison to Tiwa, I’ll say is a compliment because she is a beautiful young lady and she has done well. I have known Tiwa since 2003 in the US, we did not meet here, I did not see her on television and say wow, that’s who I want to be like. If people have the time to do their research, they’ll see that what I do today is nothing new. I did not start music yesterday. I have been doing it for a while. If you look back, even if you look as far back as Eldee’s ‘Champion’ video, you’ll see that I have always looked this way, sounded this way. I can’t copy anybody when I have always been who I have been. The reality is that, as they say, some call it ‘first to blow’. It is who you see you would identify with. I’m not going to say I’m offended or I blame anybody for saying that. It is natural, if you see someone that reminds you of a person, it is natural to say that.

How I met Tiwa

I had a gig in Atlanta in 2004; even in the US, Nigerians who are in the industry in the UK and US are quite few. It’s a small circle, everybody knows each other. It is the greater public that will not know people’s background and history. She is a great girl, a sister and a friend. I’m a fan and I know that she also respects and enjoys what I do. Again, I take it as a compliment because they could compare me to anybody and if they are going to compare me to her, it is all good for me.

My love life

Anyone interested in me should send his applications to brother Dare and brother Mo’Easy. They will be able to get back to them. My love life right now is open. When you are coming out in the industry, it is so demanding. There is no time to focus on that aspect, so I haven’t had the opportunity for that. I did not come here with somebody, so it is still the same. Right now, music is my husband.

What turns me off in a man

I don’t like obnoxious men. I like cool guys; confident but cool. I call it the ‘silent giant’. The guy that has presence but he doesn’t have to be loud about it. Just a cool laid back guy.

What I’m working on

I have a second video coming out now; the one I sang with Wayne Wonder. I have a new single that should be coming out soon. I am always in the studio because that is our own 9-5.

TENSION IN APC OVER SHARING OF OFFICE

THERE is tension in the yet-to-be registered main merger opposition party, All Progressive Congress, over distribution of offices.

The APC is a product of a merger between the Action Congress of Nigeria, Congress for Progressive Change, All Nigeria Peoples Party and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and it has an avowed mission to dislodge the PDP from power in 2015.

Already, sources within the APC on Sunday confided in our correspondents that there had been disagreements over the sharing of party offices among the stakeholders from the different parties.

Investigations showed that the CPC and the ANPP disagreed over the post of the National Secretary, which the former insisted must be given to it.

A source within the APC confided in one of our correspondents that, “the ANPP, specifically Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, wanted the position of the protem National Secretary but was schemed out.

“The CPC and the ACN conspired. The CPC insisted on the position of secretary or nothing. Those in the ANPP are not excited about this.

“There is also a proposal that the CPC in addition to producing the secretary will get the presidential slot while the ACN gets the chairmanship of the party in addition to producing the Vice-Presidential candidate.”

Shekarau was the ANPP presidential candidate in the 2011 elections and he has been  one of the major forces behind the merger agreement.

The ACN, CPC and ANPP have already scheduled a meeting for this week to resolve alleged disagreements over sharing of offices.

National Publicity Secretary of the ANPP, Chief Emma Eneukwu, however said he was unaware of any such disagreement.

According to him, there is nothing to suggest that the ANPP has any disagreement with the arrangement made by the leadership of the APC.

He said, “I am not aware of this. I know of the arrangement that we have with regards to the constitution of the Interim Management Committee. If there is any disagreement, my party has not told me about it.

“But I know that there is an agreement that each of the three parties will produce one member each in the IMC.

“There are only three positions: Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, so there is no way one party can take two positions out of three.”

He noted that the desperation of those who are scared of the rising profile of the APC could be responsible for the spreading of deliberate falsehood and misinformation.

Speaking in the same vein, National Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, accused the PDP and some unnamed “jittery forces” of peddling the rumour about the disagreement within the ranks of the opposition on the sharing of offices.

He said there was no iota of truth in the rumour making the rounds that the ranks of the APC had been polarised because of this.

“That is the handiwork of the ruling party and those jittery because of the coming together of the opposition political parties under the banner of APC,” Mohammed said.

Asked about when the yet-to-be registered party would submit its application to the Independent National Electoral Commission for registration, he said that would be done “soon.”

The National Publicity Secretary of the CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, said the main business before the proposed party at the moment was the issue of registration.

According to him, it is when the party becomes duly registered that the issue of the distribution of offices will come to play.

“It is when the issue of registration is settled that we can discuss other issues. Even at that, we recognise the fact that no sacrifice is too much to remove this indignity that the (President Goodluck) Jonathan administration represents,” he said in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents on Sunday.

He also took time off to explain that the national leadership of the party was doing everything within its power to ensure that no loose end was left untied.

Fahakin said, “What we have done is that the national leadership of our party reasoned that, look, since we don’t have a template, even INEC doesn’t have a template to hand to us; you know the concept of merger is a novelty in this country.

“That is why everybody is looking at the Constitution and the Electoral Act, we are trying our best to ensure we get things right.

“For now, the National Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer of each of the merging political parties making a total of nine, have been saddled with the responsibility of writing to INEC.”

He explained that only political parties who had held their conventions and had agreed to the merger at this level were entitled to write INEC.

The ACN, ANPP and CPC are expected to write INEC, signifying their intension to merge this week.

In a related development, there are strong indications that APGA may not field candidates in the next set of elections in 2015.

This is due to the protracted crisis rocking the party. Informed sources within the factionalised party confided in The PUNCH that APGA’s internal crisis is not likely to end soon.

Chief Victor Umeh leads one faction of the party while Chief Maxi Okwu leads the other.

A leading member of the party and Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has approached the leadership of the APC signalling his intension to drag APGA into the merger. LOOD Naija

LIFE SIZE KIM KARDASHIAN SCULPTURE UNVEILED IN L.A

You gotta wonder what Kanye West thinks about this!
A nude pregnant sculpture of Kim Kardashian is currently on display at LAB ART Gallery in Los Angeles, according to a press release sent by Cory Allen Contemporary Art.

Artist Daniel Edwards has created the life-size sculpture titled "L.A. Fertility."

“I was inspired by the beauty of Kim Kardashian and felt quite put-off by the media’s criticism of her weight gain during pregnancy,” Edwards said in a statement. “Such criticism should be off limits.”

“We live in a media-absorbed culture where anyone can access and share a celebrity’s most intimate moments,” added Cory Allen. “Daniel visually captures ‘that’ intimacy.”

Wonder why the name Daniel Edwards sounds familiar?

Edwards's Kardashian creation is part of the “Celebrity Baby Boomer” series that first began in 2006 with the controversial sculpture "Monument to Pro-Life," which depicted a nude Britney Spears giving birth on a bearskin rug.

The unveiling of Kardashian's sculpture took place on Wednesday in L.A. Oh and that's not all! Visitors are encouraged to rub the statue's belly for good luck.

No word yet on whether Kardashian will be one of the patrons to come by and check herself out.

DANGOTE TO SITE $8BILLION REFINERY IN OLOKOLA FTZ

Dangote

Culled from Punch

Indications emerged on Wednesday that the $8bn refinery proposed by Africa’s richest man and President, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, would be located at the Olokola Free Trade Zone, Ondo State.

A senior official of the company, who asked not to be named because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, told our correspondent that the refinery would be located in the OFTZ.

One of the factors considered for the location of the refinery, according to the source, is that it is the biggest deep seaport in the country and other big industries are located there; besides, Ondo is one of the oil producing states in the country.

The source added that stable crude oil supply was also a vital element in the choice of the location for the refinery because Chevron and a number of other oil producers had oil fields in the oil-rich region of the state.

On why Lagos was not chosen, industry analysts said though the state was a coastal state, Dangote would have to build pipelines to transfer crude from oil fields to the refinery, thereby incurring additional expenses.

The source explained that necessary approvals had been secured for the refinery, adding that the Dangote Group was just waiting for the necessary equipment with which to build the refinery to arrive.

Another source told our correspondent that Dangote, who was listed on Monday as the first African entrepreneur to lay claim to a $20bn fortune and one of the 25 richest men in the world, would put down $4bn of his personal fortune to build the refinery, while international financial institutions had raised the balance.

Dangote had in April announced plans to invest up to $8bn in building an oil refinery with capacity for around 400,000 barrels a day by late 2016.

The capacity, experts had said, would almost double Nigeria’s current refining strength.

“This will really help not only Nigeria but sub-Saharan Africa. There has not been a new refinery for a long time in sub-Saharan Africa,” Dangote had told Reuters in a telephone interview.

Nigeria currently has the capacity to produce some 445,000 barrels per day in four refineries, which operate well below that owing to decades of mismanagement and corruption in Africa’s leading energy producer.

The country relies on subsidised imports for 80 per cent of its fuel needs.

Dangote said the country’s ability to import fuel would soon be challenged.

“In five years, when our population is over 200 million, we won’t have the infrastructure to receive the amount of fuel we use. It has to be done,” he said.

Past efforts to build refineries have often been delayed or cancelled, but analysts have said Dangote should be able to build a profitable Nigerian refinery, owing to his past successes in industry and his strong government connections.

Analysts have said previous attempts to get the refineries going were held back by vested interests such as fuel importers profiting from the status quo.

“The people who were supposed to invest in refineries, who understand the market, are benefiting from there being no refineries because of the fuel import business. Some are going to try to interfere,” Dangote said.

He said making a new refinery run at a profit would work even if the government failed to scrap the subsidised fuel price that has deterred others from investing.

“We’ve done our numbers and the numbers are okay,” he said.

Dangote, who spoke on the sidelines of the recent World Economic Forum on Africa in Cape Town, South Africa, said he had secured $4.25bn loans from banks to build the refinery.

He said the loan was secured from “two offshore banks and some Nigerian banks.” LOOD Naija

FIRST EVICTION BIG BROTHER AFRICA "THE CHASE"

Evictions: Denzel and Huddah sent packing

After only a week in the House, Huddah and Denzel have been sent packing!

This evening, quirky Ugandan Denzel and sexy Huddah from Kenya, became the first two Housemates to be Evicted from the game. The pretty Kenyan had emerged as a rather strong personality, as evidenced by her candid Diary Sessions, where she held no prisoners.

Denzel on the other hand, proved to be a colourful character who entertained his fellow Housemates and viewers alike with his zany antics. We doubt his penis avatar will be forgotten anytime soon. This evening's Evictions proved to be rather taxing emotionally, not only for Huddah and Denzel, but also for Ruby Head of House Beverly and Diamonds Head of House, Feza. The two had to stand in front of their fellow Housemates to reveal their respective 'Save and Replace' decisions.

You could almost hear a pin drop as a deafening hush fell over the lounge when Feza stood to her feet to reveal her swap. When she finally revealed she had put Betty up for possible Eviction, the Ethiopian pulled a face and seemed to take it in her stride. Over in the Ruby House, the tears flowed freely after Bev revealed her swap. Clearly, being HoH isn't as glamorous as many people think it is.

When Denzel was told of his fate by Live Show host IK, the Ugandan gave a defeated smile and quickly made a beeline for the Eviction doors. When it was revealed that Huddah was on the first flight back home, the distraught Kenyan cried bucket loads of tears. Her love interest, Angelo was left shell shocked too.

All he could do was sit with his mouth half open in disbelief. LOOD Naija

SANUSI LAMIDO HIS CBN MISTRESS AND SWEETHEART ESCAPADES

Culled from Premium Times. Interesting read, see it below...

Twenty minutes to midnight on February 25, 2013, and a day before the board of the Central Bank of Nigeria was due to meet, Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi developed a craving for romance - he badly needed a kiss.

The governor, married with children, grabbed his mobile phone and typed out a message.  “Maybe you should come kiss me before board meeting tomorrow,” Mr Sanusi wrote and then squeezed the send button.

At about 9 a.m. the next day, Mrs. Maryam Yaro, a married mother of two, an assistant director and subordinate to the governor at the CBN, arrived at Sanusi’s unnamed Abuja hotel, seeking to keep the date and help address his boss’ craving for a kiss. (Insiders say board members, including those who live in Abuja, are usually lodged in hotels ahead of board meetings).
