PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY IN BORNO, YOBE, ADAMAWA STATES.

Jonathan Goodluck

In a nationwide address on Tuesday 14th May 2013 by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, declared State of Emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States in order to restore public order, public safety and security in affected states of the Federation.

Reports gathered that “President Jonathan who stated that this measure has become necessary because terrorists and insurgents have constituted themselves as threats to the sovereignty of the country and thereby declared war against them insisting that as a responsible government he could not tolerate these actions.

The President address:
Dear compatriots,

1. It has become necessary for me to address you on the recent spate of terrorist activities and protracted security challenges in some parts of the country, particularly in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Plateau and most recently Bayelsa, Taraba, Benue and Nasarawa states. These unfortunate events have led to needless loss of lives and property of many innocent Nigerians including members of our security forces.

2. The recent killing of security operatives by a cult group in Nasarawa state is particularly condemnable. I have directed that no effort or expense be spared in identifying and bringing to justice all those who had a hand in the killing of the operatives.

3. The activities of insurgents and terrorists have been reprehensible, causing fear among our citizens and a near-breakdown of law and order in parts of the country, especially the North. We have taken robust steps to unravel and address the root causes of these crises, but it would appear that there is a systematic effort by insurgents and terrorists to destabilize the Nigerian state and test our collective resolve.

4. Since I returned to the country after cutting short my visit to South Africa and aborting a planned state visit to Namibia, I have received detailed briefings from our security agencies. These briefings indicate that what we are facing is not just militancy or criminality, but a rebellion and insurgency by terrorist groups which pose a very serious threat to national unity and territorial integrity. Already, some northern parts of Borno state have been taken over by groups whose allegiance is to different flags and ideologies.

5. These terrorists and insurgents seem determined to establish control and authority over parts of our beloved nation and to progressively overwhelm the rest of the country. In many places, they have destroyed the Nigerian flag and other symbols of state authority and in their place, hoisted strange flags suggesting the exercise of alternative sovereignty.

6. They have attacked government buildings and facilities. They have murdered innocent citizens and state officials. They have set houses ablaze, and taken women and children as hostages. These actions amount to a declaration of war and a deliberate attempt to undermine the authority of the Nigerian state and threaten her territorial integrity. As a responsible government, we will not tolerate this.

7. Previously, we adopted a multi-track approach to the resolution of this problem through actions which included persuasion, dialogue and widespread consultation with the political, religious and community leaders in the affected states.

8. We exercised restraint to allow for all efforts by both State Governors and well-meaning Nigerians to stop the repeated cases of mindless violence.

9. Yet, the insurgents and terrorists seek to prevent government from fulfilling its constitutional obligations to the people as they pursue their fanatical agenda of mayhem, mass murder, division and separatism.

10. While the efforts at persuasion and dialogue will continue, let me reiterate that we have a sacred duty to ensure the security and well-being of all our people and protect the sovereign integrity of our country. Therefore, we shall, on no account, shy away from doing whatever becomes necessary to provide the fullest possible security for the citizens of this country in any part of the country they choose to reside.

11. We have a duty to stand firm against those who threaten the sovereign integrity of the Nigerian state. Our will is strong, because our faith lies in the indivisibility of Nigeria.

12. Following recent developments in the affected states, it has become necessary for Government to take extraordinary measures to restore normalcy. After wide consultations, and in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the provisions of Section 305, sub-section 1 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I hereby declare a State of Emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.

13. Accordingly, the Chief of Defence Staff has been directed to immediately deploy more troops to these states for more effective internal security operations. The troops and other security agencies involved in these operations have orders to take all necessary action, within the ambit of their rules of engagement, to put an end to the impunity of insurgents and terrorists.

14. This will include the authority to arrest and detain suspects, the taking of possession and control of any building or structure used for terrorist purposes, the lock-down of any area of terrorist operation, the conduct of searches, and the apprehension of persons in illegal possession of weapons.

15. The details of this Proclamation will be transmitted to the National Assembly in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution. But in the meantime, let me make it clear that within the purview of this Proclamation, the Governors and other political office holders in the affected states will continue to discharge their constitutional responsibilities.

16. I urge the political leadership in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states to co-operate maximally with the Armed Forces and the Police to ensure that the exercise succeeds. We call on the citizenry to co-operate with our security agencies to ensure a return to normalcy within the shortest possible time.

17. I am again approaching our neighbouring countries, through diplomatic channels, as done in the recent past, for their co-operation in apprehending any terrorist elements that may escape across the border.

18. Nigerians are peace-loving people; these sad events perpetrated by those who do not wish our nation well have not changed the essential character of our people.

19. I want to reassure you all that those who are directly or indirectly encouraging any form of rebellion against the Nigerian state, and their collaborators; those insurgents and terrorists who take delight in killing our security operatives, whoever they may be, wherever they may go, we will hunt them down, we will fish them out, and we will bring them to justice. No matter what it takes, we will win this war against terror.

20.I am convinced that with your support and prayers, we shall overcome these challenges and together, we will restore every part of our country to the path of peace, growth and development.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria LOOD Naija

KLINT DA DRUNK AND WIFE OPENED UP ABOUT THEIR MARRIAGE

Klint da Drunk and his wife

Comedian and actor, Afaemena Igwemba a.k.a Klint da Drunk and his wife, Lilien give an insight into what makes their six-year-old marriage tick

How long have you been married?

Klint: We thank God for the journey so far because we have been married for six happy years.

How did you meet?

Lilien: We met in Jos, where I used to reside.  Not like we planned to meet but it just happened. According to my husband, when he saw me, he told his friend, ‘That is my wife, I will marry that girl.’

Did you entertain any fears about dating and later marrying someone in the limelight?

Lilien: No profession is sacred. Even if you are marrying a doctor or a lawyer, the most important thing is knowing your partner and trusting God. For me, I was not scared at all because we were friends for a long while and that had gave me the opportunity to study him real good.

What was the attraction?

Lilien: I knew the real him, not what everybody sees when he is performing on stage.  At home, he is my husband and father to our children. When we were dating, there was no airs around him. He was very down-to-earth and that made me love him more. In addition, what truly attracted me to him is his heart. Klint is the nicest and kindest man on earth and I do not mean to flatter him. He has a heart of gold and I had always told God I want a man that will cherish our children and me.

Was there any opposition?

Lilien: My parents never opposed our decision to get married. They did not even mind the fact that he is an entertainer. Once they realised that he is a focused, young man and he was serious about me, they gave us their blessing. My husband is a very likeable person.

Klint: My parents fell in love with her over the phone, before they even met her in person. That is the kind of person my wife is.

When there are challenges, how do you resolve them?

Klint: No marriage is perfect and every marriage has its ups and downs. We have had our own fair share but we never go to bed angry.  Things have been made easier because I am married to my best friend and that is one good advice I will give to every intending bride and groom. Marriage has been an added blessing for me.

What do you think has sustained your union?

Lilien: For a marriage to succeed, it takes a lot of conscious effort on the part of the two people involved. You have to be determined to make it work. Our number one secret is understanding. We are not just friends but great friends and we understand each other. Nobody understands my husband like I do. In addition, every good wife must be a prayer warrior because prayer is the best weapon. You can win many battles with prayers and a praying family stays together.

How do you resolve your challenges?

Lilien: We always apologise to each other whenever one does any wrong to the other. I am not too big to aplogise and neither is he. Saying sorry and meaning it when you have wronged your spouse goes a long way in bringing about stability in your marriage.

Apart from being his wife, what else do you do?

Lilien: I am a wife and mother to two wonderful boys. That is a job I truly enjoy doing and I run my personal business.

Do you sometimes wish he was not in the limelight?

Lilien: That wish comes once in a blue moon. There are times I wish both of us can do some things like normal people would without raising eyebrows which a lot of times, is not the case.  Being in the limelight is restrictive somehow but I thank God for who my spouse is. It is a blessing for us.

How romantic is Klint?

Lilien: My husband is very romantic and that is another reason I fell for him. He makes a lot of romantic gestures that just melts my heart.

What is the most memorable gift you have received from him?

Lilien: Over the years, we have exchanged numerous wonderful gifts. It is so much that we have lost count. Before we got married and started having children, my best gift used to be the very first car he bought for me.  Then, we were still dating and I did not expect him to buy   but right now, the greatest gift from him is, being the best father ever to our children.

Is he also humorous at home?

Lilien: Klint is a very funny man in and out of the house. He just takes humour everywhere he goes and as such, there is no dull moment with him.

What has marriage added to you?

Lilien: It has made me more mature, patient, tolerant, disciplined, and very prayerful too.

As a couple how do you unwind?

Lilien: We try to hang out when he is less busy. We also spend quality family time together with the kids. Thankfully, in spite of his busy schedule, he is a hands-on father and husband. His family is very important to him and he is always there when we need him. In that area, he does not fail.

What pet names do you have for each other?

Lilien: He has a ‘secret’ pet name for me that truly melts my heart. It so funny how much magic that name works when he addresses me by it.

Klint: I would not disclose what she calls me either.

How did you spend the last Valentine’s Day?

Lilien: He is hardly in town on Valentine’s Day because of work. He usually has to perform at one function or the other. Besides, everyday is Valentine for us since we never stop showing each other love.  To say that we set aside one day to celebrate love is not the case. I show him love every day, hour, minute and seconds and he does the same to me. LOOD Naija

MAN COMMITTED SUICIDE AT AGE 67 YEARS.

God is the giver of life to every man human being on the surface of the earth. He did not give anyone power to take his or her life by themselves.

This is not the story of a man called Mr Timothy Akanni, 67 years old in the city of Abeokuta the capital of Ogun state who committed suicide at early hour of saturday.

Timothy popularly called “Marshal” was found hanging on an orange tree in Ojugunuko, Oke-Ijemo area of Abeokuta over what eyewitnesses described as his inability to raise enough funds that would enable him to give his late father a befitting burial.

A resident of the area, who pleaded anonymity, said passersbys who saw Timothy’s lifeless body dangling on the tree raised the alarm which attracted other residents.

The resident said the deceased who was making preparations for the final burial ceremony of his father scheduled for Saturday (yesterday) had already hired a disc jockey to entertain guests during the ceremony.

The development resulted in the indefinite postponement of the burial ceremony.

A sibling of the deceased, Mutiu, told newsmen that his late brother took his life probably because he lacked the financial means to give their late father a befitting burial.

“I told Baba Sadiat (the deceased) to join me under my tent if he knew that he did not have the means to entertain his guests. I did not know that he would kill himself. I don’t understand why he killed himself,” Mutiu said.

Policemen from the Ijemo Divisional Police station who were at the scene of the incident told the family to bring down the corpse of the deceased from the tree.

The deceased had three wives and eight children.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, could not be reached on his mobile phone to confirm the incident as his phone was switched off.

He also did reply text messages sent to his phone.LOOD Naija

COBHAMS ASUQUO THE EXCEPTIONAL MUSIC PRODUCER

Song writer/music producer per excellence Cobhams Asuquo is one man everyone needs to listen to!
CEO/ Head of Productions of CAMP (Cobhams Asuquo Music Productions), he was responsible for Asa's highly acclaimed international album ASA and has graced countless artists sleeve credits as producer and writer.

In this revealing piece, Cobham talks about his life as a blind man and the awesome lessons he's learnt being blind.

I’m a dreamer, and fortunately for me, a lot of things I have dreamt about in my life have come true. I believe strongly that one of the strong elements that fuel my very strong sense of imagination and my ability to dream is the gift of blindness. And I’m going to share with you, a couple of things that I have leant and a couple of life lessons that could be invaluable to you as well that I have learnt from Blindness.

So to start with, I will state the obvious fact that I was born blind. No one else in my family of six children is blind. There’s no known cause. No links. No explanation. Just the reality that I cannot see with my eyes.

I was born and raise in the other side of the military barracks. I lived in a small block of 18 two bedroom flats. I shared a flat with my two parents, my three siblings and whatever stray pet came out way at a time. As well as my father’s Honda Roadmaster 180 Motorcycle, which slept in the living room with me and my siblings for fear that one of its mirrors might be stolen by morning

In my neighborhood there were always something to look forward to. My mornings were characterized by news of whose pumping machine had been stolen by morning or squabbles between neighbours over who had eaten their chicken. Actually some people try to resolve the chicken situation by tying to attach a piece of red things on their chicken legs. I don’t know how well it works…

Now, blindness does not have any physical, psychological or social meaning. Since I’ve never experienced sight, I wasn’t aware that I was without sight. And so, I indulged in the innocence of young boyhood. I ran downstairs, jumped over gutters, played hard. Fought even harder. And got into any imaginable trouble that a Skinny young child could get into.

On a number of Occasions, I ran into walls. Ran into people. Ran into furniture’s so hard that that observers will shake their head and say in Pidgin English:

‘Person wey we dey feel sorry for, e no dey feel sorry for himself.’

Of course my response to such a rebuke was to scurry off and catch up with my friends and hide whatever stray bruises I had sustained away from my mother’s disapproving eyes.

Initially, scoffed at other people’s well meaning concern and pity, because I do not understand what the force was all about. As I grew older and I gained more understanding of the intricacies of living as a sightless person in a world designed for sighted people, I was faced with the looming possibility of failure in my life. But what I actually considered to be much worse was people were ready to excuse my failure because of my disability. Which brings me to my first lesson.

Do not Excuse Failure, for any reason on any account
When I turned 10, I was enrolled in a Primary Boarding School for the Blind. Fast forward to graduation day, teachers and other well wishers were giving us advice on going into the outside world. We were forwarned that we would come across people who be genuinely mean to us. People will snatch away our guide canes, pull out our typewriter ribbons, not give us the correct change, and generally just take advantage of us because we are blind.

And from my experience, and I’m sure most of you must have discovered, not all public opinion is correct opinion.

So, I personally decided that I didn’t want to want to worry myself about Guide Cane Snatchers, Ribbon Type writer thieves, and the likes. I decided not to take that advice. I don’t know if it was conscious, but decided to just trust. I figured that there was so many unfortunate things in life that has happened to you regardless of whether or not you were blind. So, why should I heap on an extra burden of worry on myself just because I’m blind.

This is my second lesson, and it’s a tough one, to Trust.
I have learnt this from blindness to trust. Sometimes, even when I have no reason to.

Now, as a child I was quite a Kid to have fun with and play little pranks on. My older brother taught me how to jump over open street gutters so anytime I was walking with friends and they inform me that we were approaching a gutter, I would jump – No questions asked.

Pretty soon, I discovered that my friends were telling me to jump even when there were no gutters. Just so they could have a laugh. But even after I found out, I still continued to jump. I chose to trust them because quite honestly, staying out of the smelly sewage gutters was very very important to me.

Now some people might ask. Can’t a person be too trusting? But I think trust has no expiration date. Blindness has taught me to keep trusting. To keep hoping. To keep believing. And by the way in case you haven’t heard, technology came along, thankfully. And not only did it take the rhythms from the typewriter, it also took away the typewriters themselves and replaced them with computers and screen readers.

And as for my guide cane story, I’ve yet to meet one friend of mine whose had their white canes snatched from them.

As a matter of fact, at some point I got too desperate and I went ahead in my first year in the University to buy myself a Mercedes Benz Wagon. It broke down on the first day I bought it. And I remember my friend, we were trying to change the tire, and anyone who called me I will say, you know what, I’m having a little car trouble. And thankfully, we can afford better cars and I have a faithful driver, and he’s under the watchful eyes of my wife. So no guide cane ‘stealers’ and all of that.

Be blind to be focused
Now some time ago, my wife and I, we walked into a duty free shop at an Airport. We wanted to buy a bottle of water. Before I knew it, she had stopped by to browse through a magazine, had picked up a book… seemingly normal actions for her but I found it quite alarming.

Now, here we were. We went in to buy an item but ended up browsing for other stuffs. And that was when it hit me. Sight, sometimes, is a distraction. Now, I have to say that when my wife goes shopping, no matter how good her intentions are to purchase only the items on her list, she somehow manages to come home with extras.

Good Deals! She will like to call them. She knows a lot about good deals, and sales and half sales. And I have to say my wife is a fantastic wonderful woman.

Now don’t get me wrong, sight is a precious gift. But on your way to your destination, what you see, can also be a big distraction from your goal. So, I have learnt that you have to be blind in order to be focused. Focus is blindness in a sense. Im sure you can relate to this because you have been focused on your goal and attained your successes by being blind to several things in your life.

Now, we live in a culture that esteems sight over blindness. And associates blindness with weakness. Yet, blindness in all of its weakness, I have drawn some key strength in my life’s journey.

When I love the veil of childhood innocence, the brutal reality of blindness stared me in the face. Self pity, and failure loomed over my shoulder. Some, I’m sure would have excused me if I became a failure. But I found it more fulfilling to break away from the expectations of mediocrity. To successfully navigate and negotiate my way through life. Even if it ruffled the feather of those who genuinely cared about me.

SON 23 YEARS IMPREGNATED MOTHER 40 YEARS

40-Year-Old Woman Impregnated By Her Son

A mother and her son have done the unthinkable – they have fallen in love with one another. And now they want to marry since the mom, is six months pregnant and expecting her son’s first child.

Mbereko (40), who was widowed 12 years ago, has been cohabiting with her first child, Farai Mbereko (23). She confirms that she is six months pregnant and that she has decided it is better to “marry” her son because she does not want to marry her late husband’s young brothers, whom she says are coveting her.

Betty stunned a village court last week when she said the affair with her son had begun three years earlier. She said after spending a lot of money sending Farai to school following the death of her husband, she felt she had a right to his money and no other woman was entitled to it.

“Look, I strove alone to send my son to school and no one helped me. Now you see that my son is working and you accuse me of doing something wrong. “Let me enjoy the products of my sweat,” she told the village court.

Farai said he was more than prepared to marry his mother and would pay off the ilobola balance his father had left unpaid to his grandparents. “I know my father died before he finished paying the bride price and I am prepared to pay it off,” he said.

“It is better to publicise what is happening because people should know that I am the one who made my mother pregnant. Otherwise they will accuse her of promiscuity.”

But local headman Nathan Muputirwa says: “We cannot allow this to happen in our village, mashura chaiwo aya, (This is a bad omen indeed).

In the past they would have to be killed but today we cannot do it because we are afraid of the police.” He warned them to break off their marriage or leave his village.

They chose the latter and have left the village for an unknown destination. LOOD Naija

CERVICAL CANCER: 26 WOMEN DIE PER DAY

A new report by the Cervical Cancer Free Coalition entitled, “Crisis Card,” has estimated that about 26 Nigerian women die of cervical cancer daily.

Also, the Crisis Card stated that India had the highest number of women dying of cervical cancer in the world while Australia, with one of the highest HPV vaccination rates, recorded the least cases.

Countries with the worst indices on the list include India, Brazil, Bangladesh and Nigeria.

The report stated that these four countries accounted for 50 per cent of the total number of cervical cancer deaths in the world.

A statement by the Cervical Cancer Free Coalition on Friday, noted that the full report of the Cervical Cancer Crisis Card would be launched globally on May 12, as part of activities to mark the International Mother’s Day.

The Crisis Card ranks over 50 countries across the world based on the number of deaths from cervical cancer and the mortality rate from this preventable disease.

It also stated that cervical cancer kills an estimated 275,000 women every year and 500,000 new cases were reported worldwide.

According to the report, this preventable disease is the second largest cancer killer of women in low and middle-income countries.

The Executive Director of CCFC, Dr. Jennifer Smith, said though cervical cancer is a vaccine preventable disease, it was still killing women in many countries in Africa and Asia.

She said, “Cervical cancer is a preventable cancer, yet we are still seeing so many deaths around the world. We are working towards building networks across the globe to help support our common goal of a world free of cervical cancer. Together we can dramatically reduce this disease through vaccination, screening and education.”

Speaking on the need to fight this disease in Nigeria, a foremost gynaecologist and Vice-Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Oyo State, Prof. Isaac Adewole said that 14,000 women were diagnosed with the disease every year in the country and called for a renewed commitment from the government toward eradicating the disease.

Adewole said, “Twenty-six Nigerian women lose their lives due to cervical cancer every day and a further 14,000 women are diagnosed each year with this disease. Cervical cancer can be almost entirely prevented through the use of vaccines that are being used around the world.

“Early screening methods and prompt treatment are also critical interventions that can save women’s lives. What is required of us all is a renewed commitment to saving the lives of our women and preventing a preventable death.”

The Chief Executive Officer of GAVI Alliance, Seth Berkley, said the organisation would be securing HPV vaccines for some African countries at a reduced or subsidised rate.

Berkley said, “2013 is the beginning of a dramatic shift in women’s health. A new low price for the HPV vaccine has been negotiated by GAVI for countries eligible for support, opening the door for millions of girls in the world’s poorest countries to be protected against one of the leading cancer killers of women. Ghana will be one of the first African countries to receive HPV vaccines this year with GAVI support.” LOOD Naija

INSECURITY AS TOP EMINET NIGERIAN IN THE NORTH DESERT PUBLIC GATHERING.

US, UK demand probe of Baga, Bama killings

Increasing attacks by the Boko Haram Islamic sect may have forced Northern governors, emirs and prominent citizens of the region to review their attendance at mosques.

Investigations by our correspondents revealed that the governors and VIPs had come under increased pressure to change their security arrangements, following incessant attacks and killings of Muslim faithful by Boko Haram gunmen targeting prominent individuals.

Over the last few months, some Northern traditional rulers and top serving and former government officials have been targeted at mosques by suicide bombers and gunmen for elimination.

Among them are the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero; Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Umar Garbai el-Kanemi; Emir of Fika, Alhaji Muhammadu Idrissa; a former Minister of Mines and Power, Alhaji Shettima Ali-Monguno; former Controller-General of the Nigeria Prison Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Jarma; and Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Zanna Mustapha.

Jarma and his two guards were shot dead as they left a mosque in Azare, Bauchi State in September 2012.

Ali-Monguno was kidnapped by Boko Haram gunmen shortly after performing the Juma’at congregational prayers at a ward in Mafoni ward in Maiduguri.

On April 13, 2007, about 5.30 am, a renowned Kano-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ja’afar Mahmud Adam was shot while leading the Fajr (Morning) prayer at the Dorayi Juma’at Mosque.

The assassins shot him at close range, tearing his chest and abdomen.

Shortly after the incident, he was rushed to Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where he died before he could receive medical attention.

Before now, security was usually increased around churches after targeted attacks on churches after the 2011 Christmas Day bombing of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla in Suleija, Niger State.

Only last week, the spokesman for the Military Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, had in a statement in Maiduguri, warned politicians, civil servants and traditional rulers among other VIPs to be security conscious.

He based his advice on intelligence which indicated that members of the Boko Haram sect had concluded plans to kidnap prominent Northerners to raise funds.

Sagir said, “Intelligence available to the task force has indicated that Boko Haram terrorists have resolved to concentrate more on kidnapping than robbery.

“They alleged that kidnapping is more lucrative, less dangerous and requires short time to plan and execute.

“Similarly, a special kidnapping squad has been earmarked and tasked by the Boko Haram sect to kidnap persons who could be wealthy relations, politicians, businessmen/women, traditional rulers, senior civil servants and foreigners alike.”

A number of state governors are not taking Sagir’s statement lightly.

In Kano State, for instance, Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and members of his cabinet have for some time now avoided public mosques.

The Kundila Juma’at Mosque located within the Kundila Housing Estate, which played host to the cream de la crème of the state’s Muslim elite like the Kano Central Mosque, located behind the palace of the Emir of Kano; now enjoy heavy security presence on Fridays.

A security source said, “It has become obvious that the elite and members of their family can no longer walk freely.

“The situation has been made worse by the abduction of Monguno in Maiduguri two weeks ago.”

The situation is not different in the northern cities of Maiduguri, Kaduna, Damaturu, Gombe, Sokoto, Gusau, Katsina and Yola.

In Kaduna, the popular Sultan Bello Mosque, which shares a fence with Arewa House around Ugwan Sarki area, also enjoys a heavy security presence.

An Improvised Explosive Device hidden in a polythene bag at the mosque killed a police bomb detection officer who tried to defuse it about two years ago.

One of our correspondents also observed an unusually high security presence at the Ansarudeen Mosque located at Abeokuta Road in Kaduna in the last few Fridays.

The movement of most of the state governors, especially on Fridays, has become a closely guarded secret as some move in silent convoys avoiding the use of sirens which was common place.

Reacting to the situation, Dr. Juniad Mohammed, a social critic and Convener of Concerned Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, said such would be a welcome development.

He said, “I quite frankly will be happy if that were to be the case because the Nigerian elite have been irresponsibly negligent about security.

“And they tend to confuse their roles as leaders of government with that of being politicians.

“Violence inside mosques is not unknown to Islam. That is why Islam favourably looks at arrangements to secure the lives of public figures that go into the mosque.

“For example, the second Kalif, Kalif Umar, was assassinated inside a mosque.

“There are several instances where murders of emirs and Kalifs were committed inside mosques throughout the history of Islam, including some imams in mosques in Baghdad and in holy places in the holy land in Jerusalem.

“For example, the grandfather of the present King of Jordan was assassinated in the grand mosque in Jerusalem. So, nobody can use Islam to say that because he wants to go to the mosque he should expose himself.

“If they don’t take care of themselves, that is their own business. Of course, the best protection is to be just and fair.

“And even if you are just and fair, like Kalif Umar was, they can learn from that unfortunate occurrence of more than 2000 years ago to protect themselves.

“So anybody who thinks he can use the mosque or use the current fashion of religiosity; to go and show how great a Muslim they are, they should think twice.”

ASARI DOKUBO: NIGERIA WILL BE HISTORY IF I AM ARRESTED.

Leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force,  Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, has dared the  House of Representatives and leaders of northern Nigeria to arrest him if they can.

Dokubo-Asari, who spoke with journalists on Wednesday evening in Abuja, said he stood by his words that there would  be no peace if Jonathan is not reelected in 2015.

He was responding to calls by members of the House, Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State and northern leaders, saying the leaders were cowards if he was not arrested.

The former President of Ijaw Youth Council  also added that any attempt to arrest him would make Nigeria “a history”, asking why those calling for his arrest turned deaf ears when some northern leaders like former Military Head of State Maj.-Gen Mohamadu Buhari, Alhaji Lawal Kaita and a former member of the House of Representatives, Farouk Aliyu, among others.

He said, “I stand by my statement which I made in my early press conference. There will be no peace, not only in the Niger Delta, but everywhere, if Goodluck Jonathan is not president by 2015.

“I want to refresh your memories with comments made by these northerners, who had in the time past threatened war and break-up of Nigeria.

“In 2010, one Lawal Kaita said and I quote: ‘Anything short of a Northern President is tantamount to stealing our Presidency. Jonathan has to go and he will go. Even if he uses the incumbency power to get his nomination on the platform of the PDP, he would be frustrated out…The North is determined, if that happens, to make the country ungovernable for President Goodluck Jonathan or any other Southerner who finds his way to the seat of power on the platform of the PDP against the principle of the party’s zoning policy’.

“Today insurgent groups, in furtherance to Kaita’s call a’re wreaking havoc, attacking military barracks and seizing weapon, but we will not sit and watch. Kaita made this statement, nobody arrested or call for the arrest of this fellow,  today he is walking free.

“Buhari made this statement in 2011, he was never arrested and nobody ever called for his arrest. In other countries, former leaders are being tried, but here, a man who overthrew a legitimate government, continues to threaten us with blood and nothing has happened.”

He added, “I am not afraid of arrest. I am saying it bold and clear without mincing  words, that the consequences of my arrest, Nigeria will be history.

“The last time Obasanjo arrested me, my arrest reduced Nigeria oil production to 700,000 barrels per day.  This time, it will reduce it to zero barrel, and we will match violence with violence, intrigues with intrigues. We are ready for them. Goodluck Jonathan will complete his tenure of two terms, whether they like it or not.

“I am daring them to arrest me if they can. If they don’t, they are cowards and shame on them.”ASARI DOKUBO: NIGERIA WILL BE HISTORY IF I AM ARRESTED.

DAVID MOYES NEW MAN-UNITED MANAGER

The current Everton boss, who will take over on July 1, described his appointment as a "great honour".
Paying tribute to his fellow Scotsman, he said: "I am delighted that Sir Alex saw fit to recommend me for the job. I have great respect for everything he has done and for the football club.
"I know how hard it will be to follow the best manager ever, but the opportunity to manage Manchester United isn't something that comes around very often and I'm really looking forward to taking up the post next season."
Sir Alex, who is stepping down after 26 years in charge, said the club had "unanimously agreed" upon Moyes.
"David is a man of great integrity with a strong work ethic. I've admired his work for a long time and approached him as far back as 1998 to discuss the position of assistant manager here," he said.
"He was a young man then at the start of his career and has since gone on to do a magnificent job at Everton. There is no question he has all the qualities we expect of a manager at this club."

The appointment of Moyes was confirmed in a statement on Manchester United's website, in which co-chairman Joel Glazer praised his "hard-working style and steely determination".
However, the club inadvertently posted the announcement on their Facebook page, starting a flurry of activity on Twitter and other social media.
Sky Sports commentator Ray Wilkins said he was "delighted" for Moyes but added it would be important for the established players to rally around their new manager.
He told Sky News: "I am sure they will give David the utmost respect when he walks through the door because of the job he's done in his managerial career up to now."
Former England manager Steve McClaren told Sky Sports News: "He has a near identical work ethic, character, competitiveness to that of Sir Alex.
"He will have Sir Alex at his side and if they get on, as I know they do, it's the master and the apprentice."

Earlier, Everton confirmed Moyes would be leaving at the end of the season.
In a statement, the club said he had been an "outstanding manager" who had made a "massive contribution" to the club.
Moyes, 50, has managed Everton for more than a decade, joining in 2002 after a spell in charge at Preston North End.
Despite having a comparatively meagre budget at Goodison Park, Moyes has kept the team in the Premier League's top eight since 2006.
Former Scottish international Lou Macari said his record at the club had been excellent and praised the players he had bought.
"He hasn't had much money and he has managed to get Everton in a reasonably good position every year," he said.
"Obviously he'll be given cash (at Manchester United) so he will build his own side and he'll have the ex-manager behind him, so I don't see any problems whatsoever."

Moyes' final two games as Everton manager will be against West Ham and Chelsea.
The club said it would start the search for a replacement manager "immediately", with Swansea's Michael Laudrup and Wigan's Roberto Martinez among the bookmakers' favourites for the job.
Sir Alex, 71, guided United to 13 Premier League titles and two European Champions League crowns during his time in charge.
"The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time," he said.
"It was important to me to leave an organisation in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so."
Moyes' appointment as Sir Alex's successor ends speculation that Real Madrid's Jose Mourinho could be given the job.
The former Chelsea boss has also been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge.www.google.com

LAGOS STATE MAJOR ROADS AND OKADA BAN

www.google.comIn august lagos state government came up with traffic laws which stated all offences with charges.

The law was made to sanitise the way vehicles are been used on the road, also to ensure that the man and woman on the steering are careful about the road signs which many people have been ignoring and thereby causing different accident on the roads.

This development took a drastic change as many commercial drivers and private car owners had to purchase the traffic law book. Lagos state government has sent majority back to school of traffic as many of the cars and buses carry the book all the time in their vehicle.

The law enforcement agents in the state has taken this action more importantly by being vigilant in every nooks and crannies of lagos state looking for defaulters to charge.

Following the traffic law, the menace of okada in lagos state was addressed as the state government banned all okada from plying the major roads and express. This action caused a lot of reactions from the bike men and the people of lagos state who patronise okada as means of mobility.

The major concern of the bike men in the state was the reduction in their daily take-home as a result of the ban. while state government is concerned about the statistics of  accident caused by okada both those hopitalised and those that are dead within a short period.

Change in the world is the permanent experience anyone can live with. The change of ban of okada riders on the major roads of lagos state has affected a lot of people who engaged the service of okada in their daily activities. We all have to live by change whether we like it or not, for every change that comes our way there is a price of sacrifice to be paid. Although sacrifice is not neccessarily been paid for by all but some few that are closely affected by such change.

Frankly, every change that does not have positive impact on people should not be allowed to last. Kicking off the menace caused by okada in lagos state is a good development.
"Where there is no law there is no punishment" Law is made for the people and not the people for the law. Do you know that law is good? If law is good, lagos state government is good, and people of lagos state are good.

To every law that was made there are law enforcement agents that should ensure that such laws are obliged by the citizen. We have The Police force, LASTMA, as the traffick law is concerned in lagos state. The actions of these law enforcement agents is not given the law any good meaning because they always over act by infriging on people human right. They tends to pull the elastic of the law beyond the limit, thereby making nonsense of the law to the populace in their own selfish way mostly.

We all like good things; which they say "good things does not come cheap". If it does not come cheap that means there is a price to be paid by all and sundry.

At this juncture, the government should ensure that they sensitised the populace before law is propagated, law enforcement agents should ensure they act within the law and not under or over enforcing the law and the populace whom the law is made for should always obey the law so as not to be punished by the law.

Wait a minute! Did you know that those lives you destroyed were result of men who want their future being represented after they have transcend to the world beyond, but by your actions, you killed the dreams of these men an the next generations.
Why were you so carlous and cruel to have demonstrated the devilish mission in you?
Do you think the world will applaud you for that barbaric attitude of yours?
Do you think you can become a hero by destroying the lives of future generations?
Great people never recieved condemnation neither were they cursed by their actions but they were given a loud ovation for their exploits.
The community of Aluu in Portharcourt, Rivers State has demonstrated to the world that life is of no meaning to them as they killed 4 students who were alledged of stolen laptops and blackberry phones.
Take a deep breath and appraise you actions were you justified? You forgot that no good decision is made in anger and you never thought of what posterity holds for you as a community.
Though you have killed them, you have put their people in agony, you have destroy the hope, that someone is building in these ones.
Imaging their course of study; what a promising geneartion?
At the point of death they were voiceless but now they are dead and their blood that you shed is crying for JUSTICE!

The weapons that you used in killing them is demanding for JUSTICE!
The souls of Lloyd, Tekena, Ugonna, and Chidiaka is demanding for JUSTICE!
